In Worcester County, Berlin resident Terri Wattay, 59, was taking her dog for a stroll on Thursday, Oct. 6 when she was struck by a truck in the 11000 block of Grays Corner Road in her hometown.

Wattay was transported by paramedics to Atlantic General Hospital and later transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Her condition was not immediately available on Friday, Oct. 7.

The dog was uninjured.

According to investigators, Berlin resident Russell Kimball, 62, was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Thursday night on Grays Corner Road when he struck Wattay, who was located on the ground on the north side of the roadway by police.

While canvassing the neighborhood, state police troopers located a vehicle in a nearby driveway with damage that matched parts found at the crash scene where Wattay was found.

Troopers then made contact with Kimball at his home on Grays Corner Road, where he advised investigators that he swerved to miss a dog when he struck Wattay.

Charges against Kimball are pending on the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office.
